In the inception of Strand Hardware, the quest for an apt brand name commenced. Initially, "Tool- Mate" was conceived with a hyphen, eventually merging into a single word. Approximately 25 to 30 years ago, our initial inventory comprised of unbranded bench grinders, totalling a hundred units. It became evident that affixing a distinct label was imperative. Several prerequisites guided our brand selection: superior quality, catering to discerning woodworkers seeking reliable machinery. Subsequently, Brian Jolly embarked on a foreign venture to identify suitable manufacturers in Taiwan and China, learning vital lessons regarding brand integrity and building relationships. Today, Toolmate has evolved significantly, coexisting harmoniously with our upmarket "Jet" brand. We established a dedicated servicing, repair, and spares division, catering to woodworkers of all scales.
In recent years, we have considerably expanded our Toolmate range, enabling us to offer a comprehensive selection of tools for any workshop, no matter how demanding our customer's requirements.

On this mini sized Toolmate wood lathe you will be able to turn bowls of up to 10"(250mm) dia and table legs up to 18"(450mm) long. The five speeds range from 500 to 3150 RPM and is easily adjustable via belt changes. The tail-stock is also hollow, which will enable the operator to drill holes right through objects like lamp stands etc. The lathe is also easily transportable which makes it the ideal machine to take to shows. The 2 MT in the head and tail-stock will also accommodate attachments like pen mandrills, chucks etc. It is sold without a stand so any sturdy table will serve as a stand.(clamp or screw down to comply to safety rules)

This is a heavy duty disc sander that will rapidly sand a variety of materials and especially the end grain of any timber. It comes standard with its own pedestal stand, and the table height can be adjusted to any comfortable working height. The top dust shroud swings back to allow easy fixing or removal of sanding disc. The abrasive disc can be glued with spray on contact adhesive. To make the disc removable-spray only one surface. Gentle heating with a heat gun will allow easy removal of sanding discs.The balanced aluminium disc ensures vibration free sanding. The sanding table can also tilt 30⁰ upwards and 45⁰ downwards with a positive lock at 90⁰ to allow all kinds of angled blocks to be sanded accurately.

This small bench-top lathe is ideal for pen making. It also has the capacity to turn bowls up to 8"(200mm) in diameter and the between centre distance is 12"(305mm) Spindle thread is the standard 1" x 8tpi so a small chuck can also be fitted to it. We recommend that you use the Jet chuck which is 65mm in diameter. Any chuck bigger than that may put unnecessary strain on the head-stock bearings. The head-stock and tail-stock both have a no 1 morse taper hole, so attachments like head-stock and tail-stock centers must all be no 1 MT. The electronically variable speed is adjusted by means of a pod on the front of the lathe so it will also be an ideal lathe for model makers and the like. It is supplied without a stand and can be mounted on any sturdy table. Accessories include a tool rest, a small face-plate as well as drive-and-tail-stock centers.

Front table is adjustable to allow a cut of up to 12mm deep when planning rebates. The back table is also adjustable and is an easy way to eliminate any snipe when installing new blades. The solid cast iron fence can be tilted up to 45⁰ and can be moved across the whole cutter head width. A positive locking device on the fence ensures complete rigidity. A 100 mm dust port is mounted on the bottom of the stand and we recommend that a dust extractor is used with this machine.
