The CL series has long been at the heart of the Record Power range of woodturning lathes, having found their way into countless workshops of both professional and hobbyist woodturners for many decades. This new updated range builds on all the great design features that have made the previous machines so consistently popular, with a number of improvements and developments to give even greater performance and value for money.
The bed bars of both machines have increased diameters for improved stability and their length has been revised to be a more compact and practical 24” in length. Optional bed bar extensions are available for those who turn very large items between centres. The spindle thread of the lathes has been increased in size to the popular M33 thread, bringing it in line with our heaviest duty lathes to give unsurpassed solidity and increasing compatibility across the range.
The headstock features easy maintenance sealed-for-life bearings, 2 at the front and 1 at the rear of the spindle, providing excellent support for the movement of the spindle. The spindle itself is hollow, allowing a knockout bar to be used to aid removal of headstock accessories.
The tailstock, which now features a 2 Morse taper barrel, also has an upgraded hand wheel to the rear, making movement of the barrel much easier. The tool rest has an improved one-piece cast design with a larger 1” diameter stem, giving a more sturdy base to turn from with increased support for the chisel.
The CL3 remains a 5 speed lathe, offering ample options for all woodturning tasks, and the CL4 features the famous VSLK variable speed unit, offering incredible versatility with its responsive variable speed change.
The JWL-1443 wood lathe features simple and convenient controls in combination with a large processing area and the possibility of turning the front headstock. Due to these qualities JWL-1443 is ideal for an amateur workshop, where you have to solve a variety of tasks.
The design is more professional than an amateur class. The important part - the frame - is made of cast iron, its upper side is polished and is an ideally flat plane, which ensures the convenience and accuracy of work. Under the bed is a sturdy pallet made of 2 mm steel with six tool storage holes.
Dimensions between the centers and above the bed are large enough to handle large billets. Such tasks correspond to a powerful asynchronous 750-watt motor, which has cooling ribs and is designed for continuous operation. To transfer the rotation, a V-belt is used, having 10 fixed speeds for easy switching. Change them without turning off the motor.
A useful feature of the machine is the possibility of turning the front headstock around the vertical axis. Due to this, it is possible to fix on the faceplate (included in the kit) and grind the blanks with a diameter larger than the size above the bed. In this case, the key importance is the construction of the pod. It has three degrees of freedom and is assembled from massive cast parts; all this allows you to use the support when turning the side of the frame. In some cases, it is also useful to move the front headstock along the bed.
The Jet 3520B lathe is equipped with precision ground bedways and the headstock and tailstock are 13mm thick cast iron with positive cam action locking devices. The heavy duty cast iron headstock is designed to travel up and down the entire length of the bed of the lathe, which allows the turning of very large diameter work at the tailstock end of the lathe. The safety spindle lock makes it easy to remove faceplates and chucks and built in indexing, offers 36 positions (10°) on the spindle. The 2-step, 10 groove Poly-V belt transmits full power from the motor to the spindle at all speeds while providing extra long belt life and ultra smooth running. A forward and reverse switch is a useful feature, especially when sanding timbers with interlocking grain and the ergonomic handles allow easy lifting of the motor for fast speed range changes. Two ratios are available enabling high torque at low rpm and with electronic speed control via an inverter; you can fine tune the speed of the lathe to suit the work in hand by the turn of a knob. The magnetic remote ON/OFF switch can be positioned anywhere along the lathe bed and comparator centres for copy work are a very useful feature. The 460mm bed extension is available as an optional extra and can be attached in two positions, the lower position giving a massive 490mm(19.1/4") centre height above the extension. If you want to buy a great lathe that will not need upgrading at a later date, then this lathe is a sound investment.N.B. The distance between centres will vary and be dependent on the type of centres or accessories used.
