In the inception of Strand Hardware, the quest for an apt brand name commenced. Initially, "Tool- Mate" was conceived with a hyphen, eventually merging into a single word. Approximately 25 to 30 years ago, our initial inventory comprised of unbranded bench grinders, totalling a hundred units. It became evident that affixing a distinct label was imperative. Several prerequisites guided our brand selection: superior quality, catering to discerning woodworkers seeking reliable machinery. Subsequently, Brian Jolly embarked on a foreign venture to identify suitable manufacturers in Taiwan and China, learning vital lessons regarding brand integrity and building relationships. Today, Toolmate has evolved significantly, coexisting harmoniously with our upmarket "Jet" brand. We established a dedicated servicing, repair, and spares division, catering to woodworkers of all scales.

The Toolmate 16" drill press is ideal for the home workshop or light industry. Can be mounted directly onto a workbench or on a low stand. The drill press will also accommodate a mortising attachment for making square slotted mortise holes. ( mortise not included) The table can easily be moved up or down with the winding lever on the side. The table can also tilt left or right up to 45⁰. Equipped with laser light and also has an E27 connection ready wired for a 60W lamp to be fitted. A medium-duty bandsaw is ideal for serious hobby use. Perfect for cutting round bowl blanks prior to turning in the lathe. Also suitable for re-sawing thick timber into thinner planks. Extra-large cast iron table that will ensure stability. The table can tilt from -10⁰ to + 45⁰. The blade tension screw is on top and is easy to adjust. Strong upper and lower blade guides that will keep the blade sturdy when doing re-sawing. Blades with a width from 3-13mm can be used. This Toolmate bandsaw has a large quick lock rip fence. Upper and lower doors are fitted with safety switches. The sheet metal stand is well made and very sturdy. This Toolmate bandsaw will include the fence and mitre gauge.
A light to medium duty spindle with a 30 mm shaft.The precision ground cast iron table ensures a flat working surface. A sliding table with a hold down clamp is mounted on the front of the machine. This will be very handy when making a coping joint on end grain eg when making rails and stiles for panel doors. Fitted with 100mm dust extraction hood and solid fence. Easy to change speeds to any of the 4 speeds and the digital readout shows the running speed. Cutter height is adjusted by means of handwheel while the spindle lock keeps the cutter at the correct height. (NB) Machine is sold without any tooling.
The Toolmate 500F boasts an aluminium fence with 100mm dust outlet + cast iron sliding table + one-piece 30mm spindle + 4 speeds + two parts body. Tools sold separately.
